Chef Balvir Singh Rawat

The Indian Tadka restaurant was established in 2018 By Chef Balvir singh
Rawat who is from Uttarakhand (Northern India, in the lap of
Himalaya Mountain range. Chef Balvir has over 30
years experience cooking authentic Indian cuisine. He has worked in various Indian restaurants around New Zealand over the past 18 years. After years of
hard work, he decided to open his own restaurant with his son
Birendra Rawat.  Birendra came to New Zealand after completing his
hospitality graduation degree from India in 2017.

Tadka is known as “tempering”. It is the technique in which whole or ground spices are briefly roasted in oil or ghee (clarified butter) in order to release their essential oils, thus making their flavour more aromatic.

We operated our 1st restaurant in Opunake (South Taranaki) from 2018
to 2021. We started our new adventure in Matamata in 2022 with the desire to service authentic Indian food in Matamata.

We have our own mix of garam masala and cook the best authentic Indian food in Matamata.  We proudly serve our haute cuisine. Our menu consists of a range of popular food preparations from different parts of India. Our butter chicken is famous in Matamata. 

Our food is spiced with a homemade hot sauce – we can tailor the spice level to individual requirements from mild to extremely hot and Indian hot. We can cater for special dietary requirements – just let us know. Vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free or anything else. Every single curry has its own aroma and taste.
